So what is Women’s Equality Day anyway? On August 26, 1920, the U.S. Secretary of State signed the 19th Amendment, officially granting women the right to vote in the U.S. after a 100 year struggle. However, the uphill fight for American voting rights did not end on this day. It wasn’t until the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that women of all races FINALLY received legal protection against discriminatory voting laws. And unfortunately, the struggle continues today as voter suppression of young voters and minorities runs rampant across our country.
This year on Women’s Equality Day, August 26, 2020, the U.S. celebrates the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment. Queen City Cabaret is marking the moment by honoring the voices of women in our community and continuing the fight against voter suppression. Join us on Facebook at 7pm, August 19-26, to meet seven INCREDIBLE artists who are making music and changing the game all over our Cincinnati community. We’ll also be collecting funds to support The Brennan Center for Justice, an organization dedicated to ensuring that every American has access to a safe and fair election-.
